![]() ![]() Aspects of their personalities seem to be missing at first, but return over time. Teens return from The Program able to recognize their families, but not their friends. It is never explained how the program doctors decide what to erase and what to keep. Traumatic experiences are removed completely, and patients return to their homes with no memory of their friends from school. They cannot have visitors, or even communicate with their parents via phone or letter. Patients are kept in mental health facilities and have no contact with the outside world. The series takes place in a dystopian world in which suicidal teens are involuntarily hospitalized and have their memories erased as a method of treatment. “The Program” and it’s sequel “The Treatment” are the first two books in a series of young adult romance novels.
